About Amsterdam

Always wondered why a trip to Amsterdam for a few days could be so much fun? Listen to these world famous celebreties how they remember their trips to Amsterdam. The video shows Colin Firth as well as Melanie Griffith about her trip to the redlight district when she was 18 years old. Stephan Dorff, Brad Pitt and Scarlett Johansson share memories. Cynthia Nixon, from sex and the city remembers Amsterdam as one of the most liberated cities in the world. Bruce Willis, Meryl Streep, Sylvester Stallone, Jamie Foxx, Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey loved their stay. Kim Cattrall tells about her love for dutch men. Sarah Jessica Parker was amaized by the number of bycicles. Hugh Grant, takes a Traditional Dutch herring by the tail and eats it raw. Finaaly Guillermo del Toro remembers the nice streets and great 18th century architecture he found.

Or just see what Lonley Planet tv has to say about Amsterdam.

We fully support the suggestion of the Lonely planet to get a feel for the city by slowy walking in. Start at the southern entrance of the Vondelpark and walk towards, Leidsche plein (or Museum square for the artlovers). The Vondelpark South main entrance is a under 15 minute walk (or two tramstops) from the Hem Hotel.

If jyou decide to take the tram directly tramline number 2 that connects the Hem Hotel Amsterdam to the city center makes stops close to the Vondelpark entrance as stated before. But also at the Concert building and Museum square (in front of the Van Gogh museum and Rijks museum entrance), PC Hooftstraat, for exclusive shopping, Max Euwe plein with the only fully licenced Casino in Amsterdam, Leidsche square, Reguliersdwarsstraat, Spui, with nice trasses as well as the entrance to the Begijnhof, probaly the most silent spot in the city of Amsterdam. Next is Dam square (the royal palace as well the stop for the Anne Frank House) and Kolk before turning back at Central station.

The Begijnhof is one of those little trasures that you cannot afford to miss. It is right in the city center, you are so close when you do the main shoppingstreet, but you'll never find it unless you are told. See what to ecpect at the Begijnhof below.
